Wed. Third Week of Advent

Matthew 1:13-16 and Zerub’babel the father of Abi’ud, and Abi’ud the father of Eli’akim, and Eli’akim the father of Azor, and Azor the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eli’ud, and Eli’ud the father of Elea’zar, and Elea’zar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ.

This is only a part of the reading of the book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ. For each generation it lists the “father of…, the father of…, until it gets to Jesus it says; Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ.  This is set apart from the rest of the genealogy…it lists Joseph as Mary’s husband and Jesus is born of Mary. This is one way, St. Matthew tried to show that Jesus’ father is God Almighty. I was struck with the thought this baby born on to us is God-man and loves each of us. Sometimes, I find it tough to like a person or to be around someone but if I take time to think about it I have to smile because I realize God loves that person as much as He loves me! It is a discussion I hope to have with God someday, how did you do that?!

Teach me Father to follow your example to be humble and to show kindness and patience to those around me even when it is not easy.
